Lycoming College alumnus Jamie Spencer is in his second year as an assistant women’s basketball coach at the College. Spencer is responsible for developing post players and implementing offensive and defensive strategies.
In his first year with the Warriors, the team showed marked improvement in post play, as he helped Kaitlyn Ober to the Commonwealth Conference scoring title and all-conference honors. Spencer also helped Rebecca Spencer notch career highs nearly across the board and develop freshman Julia Antonelli into one of the team's top scoring threats.
Spencer has a wealth of experience at several levels of the game. From 2002-09, he was the head boys’ basketball coach at Montoursville (Pa.) Area High School. His duties included coaching the varsity team and overseeing the entire basketball operation. After inheriting a winless squad, he transformed the program into a playoff contender, reaching the postseason twice.
This is Spencer’s second basketball coaching stint at Lycoming. He served as a student assistant and assistant coach with the men’s program from 1999-2003. He worked under Terry Conrad and was on staff when the Warriors won their first Freedom Conference title during the 2001-02 season. Spencer was responsible for recruiting, developing post players and the scout teams, making travel arrangements and video exchange.
From 1995-2003, Spencer was an executive staff member and assistant site director for the Keystone State Basketball Camps.
A 1995 graduate of Williamsport Area High School, Spencer a bachelor’s degree in managerial economics from Lycoming in 2001. He also serves as the College’s head men’s golf coach. Spencer resides in Cogan Station, Pa., with his wife, Michelle, and son, Jensen.
