George Henry is in his 20th season as assistant women’s basketball coach at Lycoming College in 2023-24. His duties include coordinating the team's recruiting efforts, practice preparation, opponent scouting and development of player personnel to include teaching offensive and defensive techniques and fundamentals as well as assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program.
During his time with the Warriors, he has helped mentor 17 all-conference selections and five 1,000-point scorers (Andrea Cooper, Julia Antonelli, Shelby Mueller, Akilah McFadden, Kayla Kline). The team has won 193 games in his time on the bench and he has also helped Lycoming reach the postseason seven times in a nine year stretch from 2012-21, a stretch that included recording a school-record seven straight winning seasons (2013-20). In 2019, the team posted an 18-9 record and reached the MAC Commonwealth Championship game.
He built his coaching resume as an assistant for the Muncy High School varsity girls’ team during the 1984-85 season, and again from 1990-04. During that time, the team won the District IV AA Championship (1993) and the District IV A title (2001). Henry was the head coach of the Muncy Junior High girls’ program, as well as co-coordinator of the Muncy Elementary girls’ basketball program from 1986-03.
Henry served as a vocal music teacher in the Muncy School District for 33 years before retiring in 2015. In 2004, he was named “Educator of the Year” in the Muncy School District by the Williamsport Lycoming County Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Freeland, Pa., Henry earned a bachelor of music degree in 1982 from Susquehanna University and a master’s degree in music education from the Pennsylvania State University in 1987. He has also done postgraduate work at Bucknell University and Lycoming College.
Henry resides in Muncy with his wife, Cathy.
