John Dorner begins his ninth season as the head coach of the Lycoming men's tennis program. He took over the men’s tennis program in 2003 after 20-year veteran Joe Mark stepped down from the program. The 2009 season was Dorner’s best overall, posting a 4-6 record, while coaching two players to the second round of the Middle Atlantic Conference individual tournament.

In 2009, Bobby Brown and Alex Beattie had the best overall records of any player under Dorner. Beattie recorded a 7-3 overall record in the second flight of singles, while Brown posted a 6-4 record in the top-flight. The duo combined in the first flight of doubles to finish the season at 8-2 overall, while also earning a 4-1 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. Both players were named to the 2009 All-Commonwealth team, as voted by the coaches in the conference.

During the 2007 season, Dorner coached senior Michael Byerly to the second round of the individual tournament, as well as guiding him to a first-team All-Conference selection.

Dorner is a United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) certified professional as well as Williamsport High School’s girls coach during the fall season and an instructor at West Branch Tennis Club

Prior to coaching, Dorner played at the collegiate level for Juniata College and Lock Haven University.
