Todd Hodgson

Todd Hodgson

The first coach to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team to the conference playoffs in each of his first two years, Todd Hodgson is set to begin his fourth season as head coach of the team in 2014.

In his three years at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, Hodgson has mentored two league-leading scorers, a two-time conference player of the year, a MAC Scholar Athlete, a USILA All-American, a North/South Game selection, a Scholar All-American and eight all-conference selections.

Despite losing All-American Stephen Romano to an injury in the opening game of the 2013 season, Hodgson kept the Warriors in the hunt for a Commonwealth Conference playoff slot until the final week of the season. Along the way, he coached two all-conference selections and he helped mentor the league's leading goal scorer, Matt McCaffer.

In 2012, the Warriors posted the first win in school history against perennial powerhouse SUNY Geneseo and also knocked off Commonwealth Conference-leading Albright to help them finish third in the conference. Stephen Romano became the first player in school history to repeat as the league's player of the year and Victor Marchetti became the first player in school history to earn the MAC Scholar Athlete award and the USILA Scholar All-American honor.

In his first year in Williamsport, Hodgson led the Warriors through a tough non-conference slate that included games against ranked opponents Dickinson and SUNY Geneseo before the team hit its stride during the MAC slate, as the Warriors won eight of nine at one point to finish the season with a 9-8 record.

Along the way, Hodgson mentored the league's Player of the Year, Romano, who finished second in the nation in Lax.com's Clutch rating, along with three other all-conference performers.

Hodgson came to Lycoming with nearly a decade of experience in the Middle Atlantic Conference, as he spent time as an assistant at former MAC schools Susquehanna and Scranton before taking over as head coach Manhattanville in 2008.

Hodgson was hired as the first full-time coach in the history of the program and he went about rebuilding the Valiants’ tradition. Along the way, he mentored goalkeeper Andrew Predun to three all-conference accolades, including helping him earn first-team honors the last two seasons.

In three seasons at Manhattanville, Hodgson's Valiants posted several memorable moments, including posting two wins against perennial MAC frontrunner FDU-Florham and narrowly missing a spot in the MAC Tournament due to a tiebreaker in 2009. In 2008, Hodgson led the squad to an 8-8 record, the most wins by a first-year coach in program history. The team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Metro/South Championship, marking the program's second postseason appearance since 1992.

Hodgson came to the Valiants after spending 2007 as the defensive and recruiting coordinator at Scranton. With Hodgson’s guidance, the Royals posted their most wins in five years, doubling their win total from 2006 and dropping their goals against average from 11.8 to 9.1 while advancing to the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament. He coached one all-conference selection at Scranton.

Prior to his time at Scranton, Hodgson spent two seasons as the recruiting coordinator at Williams in the powerhouse New England Small College Athletic Conference. With the Ephs, Hodgson oversaw the offensive unit, boosting the team’s goals per game average from 6.7 in 2004 to 10.1 in 2006, a year that was highlighted by a regular season win over eventual NCAA Division III semi-finalist Wesleyan.

Hodgson began his coaching career in the Middle Atlantic Conference at Susquehanna, serving as the Crusaders’ offensive coordinator from 2001-04. Joining the team in 2001, just the program’s second year in existence, Hodgson helped the program grow from fledgling to a contender in the MAC. In 2004, he helped coach the team to a school-record six wins and five MAC wins while the team narrowly missed out on a spot in the playoffs. During Hodgson’s stay, the team produced three All-MAC selections and the 2004 MAC Rookie of the Year, goalkeeper Dan Kotch.

On the field, Hodgson shined at Ramapo High School in the mid-1990s and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Gill-Gibbs Senior All-Star Game in 1996. The Wyckoff, N.J., native then went on to star for four seasons at Drew, leading the Rangers to a 42-20 record and three consecutive Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships.

Hodgson is a member of the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee and the Men's Lacrosse Advisory Chair for the Middle Atlantic Conference. He is a also a voter in the USILA Coaches' Poll.

Hodgson earned his bachelor’s of arts in art history from Drew University in 2000 and he earned his master’s of sports business management from Manhattanville in 2010.
