WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Laurel Fite (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) posted first- and fourth-quarter goals to lead the Lycoming College field hockey team to a 2-1 win over St. Francis University in non-conference action at UPMC Field on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Â
Fite got the Warriors (1-1) on the board with 4:30 left in the first quarter, when she deflected a shot by junior
Lacy Eckard (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) into the net. Just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, she struck again, this time off a give from senior
Loghan Shelly (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central), as Fite became the fourth Warrior since the program's reinstatement to reach 10 career goals with the score.
Â
Julia Barto scored with 2:16 left in the game for the Red Wolves (0-2) with a shot from high in the arc, but the Warriors closed the door in the final moment to earn the win.
Â
Junior
Hilary Clark (Wilmington, Del./John Dickinson School) stopped seven shots to earn the win in net for the Warriors and Madison Morrison had four saves for St. Francis.
Â
Lycoming wraps up its season-opening homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they host King's (Pa.) in non-conference action at 7 p.m., at UPMC Field.
