WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Lycoming College field hockey team scored three goals in an eight-minute span to roar past King's College, 3-2, in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at UPMC Field.

Lycoming (2-1) outshot King's (1-2), 26-11, while hanging on to a one-goal lead for the entirety of the fourth period to win by a single tally for the second straight match.

Lycoming threatened multiple times in the first without a goal before King's struck first. At the 4:04 mark in the second, Melanie Tlatenchi snuck a shot into the back of the cage off a pass from Gwen Erb to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Lycoming, though, answered with the equalizer with just 1:48 left in the half, when sophomore Laurel Fite (Sherman's Dale, Pa. / West Perry) rebounded a deflected shot and scored her third goal of the season, knotting things up at 1-1 going.

Right out of halftime, both teams found their offense. First it was the Warriors, as Fite found first year Abie Niedermyer (Muncy, Pa. / Muncy) for her first collegiate goal to take the lead less than three minutes out of halftime and less than three minutes after that, senior Loghan Shelly (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) stuffed in a cross from junior Riley Hackett (Hampstead, Md. / Hereford) for her first goal of the season and a 3-1 lead.

Just 83 seconds later, King's answered, as Amelia Mason fired a shot off a penalty corner that was deflected in by Hope Burke to trim the Lycoming lead back to one goal. The Warriors, though, held firm from there, fending off five penalty corners in the final period to earn the win.

Fite tallied a goal and an assist, while Shelly and Niedermeyer each notched their first scores of the season. Hackett picked up an assist as well. Keeper Hillary Clark (Wilmington, Del. / John Dickinson) stopped six shots to earn the victory.

Tlatenchi and Burke each scored their first goals of the season for King's, who also received 11 saves from goalkeeper Tierney Hogan.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11, when they hit the road to take on Houghton. The match will get underway at 7 p.m.
