WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Lycoming College men's tennis team swept doubles play and received a pair of strong singles performances to defeat King's College, 5-2, in a non-conference match on Thursday, April 9 at Brandon Park.
Lycoming (3-6) earned their first victory of the spring semester, starting the day strong with a pair of 6-1 wins over King's (1-7) in doubles action, courtesy of the No. 1 doubles team of senior Josh Neidert (Reading, Pa. / Oley Valley) and sophomore Logan Hammond (Williamsport, Pa. / Loyalsock Township), and then the same result from the No. 2 doubles pairing of senior Luke Taylor (Williamsport, Pa. / Word of Life Bible Institute) and sophomore Kayvan Shams (Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport).Â
In singles play, Shams withstood a slow start to the second set and held off Logan Tompkins in the #2 match, 6-1, 7-5. Hammond breezed to a win in #4 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Zack Bedwell.
The Warriors were the recipients of walkovers in the final doubles match, plus #5 and #6 singles.
Lycoming will be back in action on Saturday, April 11 for a Landmark Conference match against the Catholic University of America. Opening serve from Washington, D.C. is scheduled for 1 p.m.
