Block continues to pace Lycoming against Susquehanna

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The NCAA Division III leader in goals, senior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) notched five more to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, which fell to Susquehanna University, 18-5, in Landmark Conference action at UPMC Field on Saturday afternoon, March 28.
 
Coming into the game leading Division III with 6.44 goals per contest, Block added five more goals to give her 63 on the season, just 17 goals from the school record of 80 that has been reached three times.
 
Susquehanna led 8-0 at the end of the first before Block scored three goals before the half ended. She added two more goals in the fourth quarter, giving her 310 career points, just nine from the school record held by Kelly McGinniss '19.
 
First-year Julie Dammes (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and first-year Molly Giufre (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) each recorded assists, while Dammes also recorded three ground balls and five draw controls. Block also added three draws and caused two turnovers and first-year Rachel Crawford (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) added two caused turnovers as well.
 
Abby Andrus led the River Hawks with seven goals and an assist and Jessica Russo added a goal and six assists. Shea Cina also caused four turnovers.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) added eight saves and Susquehanna's Aerin O'Brien stopped three shots.
 
Before the game, the Warriors honored the team's senior class – Block, Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Charter), Gabriella Fugon (Shenandoah, Pa./Shenandoah Valley) and Anna Glantz (Wysox, Pa./Homeschooled).
 
The Warriors are back on the field on Friday, April 3, when they head to Elizabethtown College for a 5 p.m., Landmark Conference tilt.
