Bottger goes deep for Lycoming at third-ranked Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md.— Senior outfielder Josh Bottger (Wilkes-Barre, Pa. / Wilkes Barre Area) swatted his first home run of the season and junior Anthony Guzman (Inglewood, Ca. / Paramount) drove in two for the Lycoming College baseball team in a 12-3 setback at third-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, March 11 at Babb Field.

Bottger, in the leadoff position for the first time in his career, deposited a 3-1 offering over the left field fence to give Lycoming (7-6) a 1-0 lead on his second career round-tripper. Johns Hopkins (11-2) responded with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the first to take the lead before posting a six-run third, capped by a three-run home run from Aaron Bock.

The Warriors scored twice in the fourth when Guzman singled home senior Brody Lindsey (Monrovia, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) and junior Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa. / Bishop Shsnahan). Johns Hopkins then scored one in the fourth and two more on a Jacob Harris home run in the eighth.

In addition to Bottger's homer, Guzman finished with a hit, a walk, and two RBI, while MacCluen and senior Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville Area) each stroked two hits. Senior lefty Matt Guido (Holbrook, N.Y. / Sachem East) threw a career-high 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, striking out a career-best four allowing just an unearned run on one hit. Senior Rick Trapanese (New Egypt, N.J. / New Egypt) also worked 2.1 innings in relief, a season best.

Harris led Johns Hopkins with three hits, four runs, and two RBI. Bock homered and drove in three.

The Warriors will return home to open Landmark Conference play with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 to kick off a three-game series against Elizabethtown. First pitch from Brandon Park is scheduled for noon.
