MADISON, N.J. — Sophomore Leandro Cruz (Nottingham Md. / Loyola Blakefield) scored the first goal and assisted on the other two as the Lycoming College men's soccer team earned their first victory in Landmark Conference play, defeating Drew University, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Ranger Field.
Lycoming (5-5, 1-1) pulled in front in the 42nd minute when Cruz scored off an assist from first year George Preston (New York, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) to put Lycoming in front 1-0 at halftime.
Lycoming added to the lead in the second 45 minutes as sophomore Matthew Sweeney (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) scored off Cruz's feed in the 68th minute and first-year Connor Hussman (Bernville, Pa. / Tulpehocken Area) put the final touches on the afternoon with an 82nd minute score, with Cruz again assisting.
Cruz posted his team-high fourth goal and the first multi-assist game of his career, while Hussman and Sweeney add goals, with Preston picking up an assist. Junior keeper Jace Bennett (Falling Waters, W.Va / Spring Mills) stopped six shots in his third shutout of the season.
Drew fell to 5-2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark.
The Warriors will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 7 for a Landmark Conference matchup against the University of Scranton. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at UPMC Field.
