WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Junior Riley Hackett (Hampstead, Md. / Hereford) pocketed a pair of goals to lead the Lycoming College field hockey team, which fell, 4-3, to Drew University on Saturday, Oct. 3 at UPMC Field.
Lycoming (3-6, 0-2) had the upper hand in shots, 20-11, but Drew (5-5, 2-0) scored three tallies in the fourth quarter.Â
After a scoreless first period, Drew was awarded a penalty stroke midway through the second period, but Lycoming junior keeper Hillary Clark (Wilmington, Del. / John Dickinson) kicked it away to keep the contest scoreless.
Two minutes later, senior Ava Daly (Camp Hill, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt) took away an errant pass and fired a shot that was saved by the Drew keeper, but deflected right to junior Riley Hackett (Hampstead, Md. / Hereford), who slapped in the first goal of the game to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Drew evened the game a little over three minutes after halftime, but Hackett put the Warriors back in front with an unassisted goal from the left side just past the midway point in the third. Three minutes into the final period, senior Loghan Shelly (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) scored directly off Daly's penalty corner for the final Lycoming tally.
Hackett scored her first two goals of the season, while Shelly tallied her third score of the season. Daly assisted on two of the Warrior scores. Clark stopped six shots in the cage.
Allison Brady, Emily Caporrino, Bella Fini, and Ellie Kopec all scored for Drew, while Vanessa Pennella earned 14 saves.
The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for a Landmark Conference matchup at home against the University of Scranton. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
