WASHINGTON, D.C.—A lone goal shortly before halftime was the difference as the Lycoming College women's soccer team continued their best start in program history with a 1-0 Landmark Conference win over the Catholic University of America on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Carlini Field.
Lycoming (10-0, 1-0) stayed perfect on the season in their lowest-scoring contest of the season, defeating Catholic (3-6-1, 0-1) in both teams' conference opener.
Most of the first half was scoreless, but the Warriors pulled in front in the 44th minute when junior Julia Bidelspach (Myerstown, Pa. / ELCO) found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season off an assist from junior Norah Mosley (Robbinsville, N.J. / Allentown).
Despite a barrage of shots from the Cardinals in the second half, Lycoming held the lead the rest of the way, with no goals in the second half.
The Warriors were outshot in the match 27-7, but senior goalkeeper Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) made a career-high 12 saves and earned her second shutout of the season and 11th of her career.
Lycoming will put their perfect record on the line next in their final non-conference matchup of the season, a road tilt at Elmira College on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
