Hot-hitting Warriors down Penn St.-Altoona in four

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – First-year Charlene Petreshock (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and senior Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) led the hot-hitting Lycoming College volleyball team with 11 kills apiece, as Lycoming overcame a first-set setback to post a 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22) win over Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Lamade Gym.
 
Lycoming (5-6 overall) hit a season-best .330 (49-12-112), the team's best hitting performance since hitting .422 against Marywood on Sept. 7, 2024.
 
Junior Alli Macensky (Galeton, Pa./Galeton Area) posted eight kills, hitting .667, and three blocks and first-year Kamryn Skeith (Monroe, Wash./Sultan) posted seven kills, 22 assists, two aces, 11 digs and two blocks. First-year Emi Wenger (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) added five kills, three blocks and 13 digs. Upcraft, who hit .400, also added five blocks.
 
Junior Haley Balgavy (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) posted 20 assists and seven digs and junior Ima Mercado (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) added 19 digs and four aces.
 
Lycoming hit better than .300 in the first three sets, hitting .500 (10-0-20) in the third set and the Warriors, after falling behind 13-10 in the second set, only trailed twice more in the match, both when the Lions (2-6 overall) earned the first point of the third and fourth sets.
 
Penn State-Altoona was led by 19 kills from Lia Simanski, 18 assists from Julia Emel, four aces from Ella Hadley, 10 digs from Brianna Woodring and four blocks from Jayden Ulmer.
 
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, with a tri-match at Lamade Gym, facing Delaware Valley University at 11 a.m. and Albright College at 3 p.m.
