Long’s late goal wins opener at Utica, 2-1

UTICA, N.Y. – Junior Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) scored in the 87th minute off a give from sophomore Ella Magee (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) to lift the Lycoming College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Utica University on Friday afternoon, Aug. 29, at Laura Casamento Stadium.

Utica (0-1 overall) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, but the Warriors (1-0 overall) responded in the 44th minute as senior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) found the back of the net on a give from senior Claudia Green (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) to even the score.

The Warriors outshot the Pioneers, 26-10, and that effort paid off late with Long's game-winner.

Senior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) earned the win, making six saves in 80 minutes, while sophomore Marissa Price (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) also played 10 shutout minutes. Emily Duro and Hanna Pcola combined to make 12 saves for the Pioneers.

The Warriors travel across I-90 to face Buffalo State in non-conference action on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m., to wrap up the weekend.
