WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) scored eight goals and added an assist, senior Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) added six goals and two assists, and senior Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md. / Harford Tech) posted two goals and six assists — as the three combined for 25 points — to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team to a 23-2 win over Wilkes University in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening, April 9, at UPMC Field.
Block led the team with nine points, followed by Maguire and Baldwin, who tied at eight. Block also snagged six ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Sophomore Sarah Spring (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) kicked off the Warriors' scoring 30 seconds into the first quarter, sparking an eight-goal run. Senior Alyssa Zorbaugh (York, Pa. / West York) and Baldwin each contributed a goal, and Maguire added two to the board. Block contributed six goals in the period, including one off a free-position shot, to lift the Warriors to an 11-1 advantage.
In the second period, Maguire began Lycoming's eight-point run in the 46th second, and she claimed another goal in the sixth minute. Senior Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) and first-year Emily Reese (Kingsville, Md. / Eastern Tech) also added two goals each. Block and Baldwin rounded out the second-period scoring, bringing Lycoming to an 18-goal lead, 19-1, at halftime.
Junior Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del. / Wilmington Charter) scored in the 10th minute of the third quarter to claim her first goal of the season. In the fourth quarter, Maguire scored back-to-back goals in the fifth and 11th minutes. With 2:10 on the clock, Block finished out the Warriors' scoring, bringing the score to 23-2.
First-year Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) clocked five saves in the cage for the Warriors (7-5 overall, 2-3 Landmark). In the cage for Wilkes (0-11 overall, 0-5 overall), Brooklynn Donia and Rissa Brazeau combined to save 10 shots.
Lily Zingaro and Brooklyn Pedana each scored a goal for Wilkes. Alexis Guttilla and Megan Bell assisted the goals.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Saturday, April 12, to compete in Landmark Conference action against Drew University at 1 p.m. Before the game, the team's four seniors will be honored.
