Maguire, Block combine for 16 goals in setback against Drew

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Senior Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) led the Warriors with 10 goals, the second most in a game in program history, and junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) followed up with six to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team as it fell, 22-17, against Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon, April 12, at UPMC Field.  

In the first period, Maguire started the Warriors' scoring in the fifth minute, tying the game at one, and she added more goals in the ninth and 13th minutes. Block scored her first goal of the game in the seventh minute, as the Warriors (7-6 overall, 2-4 Landmark) ended the quarter trailing by two, 6-4. 

Block returned in the 20th second of the second quarter to add another goal. Maguire followed with her fourth goal a minute later off a free-position shot. Drew (4-9 overall, 2-4 Landmark) entered halftime with a four-point advantage, 10-6.  

In the third quarter, Block scored three goals, which came in the third, seventh, and 11th minutes respectively. Maguire also tacked on a goal with 2:56 remaining in play. The Rangers claimed an eight-point lead, 18-10, heading into the fourth quarter. 

To start the final quarter, Block and first-year Emily Reese (Kingsville, Md. / Eastern Tech) each scored in the fourth minute. Drew followed up with back-to-back goals. Maguire quickly bounced back with five goals in a row, bringing the score to 22-17. Seniors Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md. / Harford Tech) and Alyssa Zorbaugh (York, Pa. / West York) each assisted one of Maguire's goals. 

Maguire also caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

First-year Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) recorded 13 saves in the cage for the Warriors. Rorrie Sifers and Paige Shaw combined to save eight shots in the cage for Drew. 

Grace Patane scored six goals — followed by Aubrey Welch with five and Madi Strong with four — to lead Drew's scoring. Kristina Lowe also added four assists and snagged five ground balls.

The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Friday, April 18, to play against Moravian University in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m.
