SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior
Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md. / Harford Tech) posted one goal and added five assists to become the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team's career leader in helpers to highlight an 18-12 setback at Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon, April 5, at Sassafras Field.
Baldwin finished the game with 120 assists in her career, two more than the previous record-holder, Heather Suit (2005-08), posted during her career.
Junior
Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) led the team with four goals, and senior
Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) snagged seven ground balls, caused four turnovers, and contributed three goals and an assist. Senior
Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) also notched two goals to help Lycoming's efforts.
A minute and a half into the first quarter, Block darted down the field to secure the Warriors' first goal, which was assisted by Baldwin. Susquehanna (5-7 overall, 2-2 Landmark) separated from Lycoming (6-5 overall, 1-3 Landmark) with three sequential goals before Stocker pushed forward with a man-up goal, which Maguire assisted in the ninth minute. The River Hawks added two more goals in the last five minutes to claim a 5-2 lead to end the first period.
Stocker and Baldwin teamed up in the third minute of the second quarter. With 9:55 left on the clock, Block returned to add her second goal of the game, and she circled back to notch her third goal in the seventh minute, closing the gap to 8-5. With 14 seconds remaining in the first half, Maguire threw the Warriors' sixth goal into the cage. Baldwin helped the man-up goal to claim her third assist of the day to tie the school record.
To kick off the third quarter, Baldwin recorded the record-breaking assist, helping sophomore
Amina Abbas-Uddin (Beltsville, Md. / CMIT Academy North) to post the Warriors' seventh goal. Senior
Alyssa Zorbaugh (York, Pa. / West York) followed up with 1:59 on the clock with a free-position goal. With 35 seconds left in the period, Block returned with another free position shot, which was her fourth goal of the game, closing the gap to 14-9.
In the fourth quarter, Maguire returned with 4:45 on the clock to launch the ball into the back of the cage. With 1:06 remaining, Baldwin secured a free-position goal, and Maguire followed with 25 seconds on the clock to add the last goal to the board, which Baldwin also assisted.
First-year
Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) stopped six shots on goal in the cage for the Warriors. Susquehanna's Aerin O'Brien posted nine saves in return.
Emma Kelleher led Susquehanna's efforts with four goals. Sophia Trively and Liv Owen followed suit with three goals each, and Owen also added five assists.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Wednesday, April 9, to compete in Landmark Conference action against Wilkes University at 7 p.m.
