WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) became the fourth pitcher in program history to reach 300 career strikeouts and junior
Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) became the 18
th player credited with 100 hits as the Lycoming College softball team walked off with a 6-5 win from its halted game on April 2 and fell, 2-0, in the second game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader with Juniata College on Wednesday afternoon, April 23.
Â
Eiswerth (7-7) pitched both games for the Warriors, allowing two earned runs and striking out 11 in each game, giving her 135 in her career, seven shy of the school record of 142 set by Morgan Mantle in 2005. She also finished the day with 309 strikeouts in her career, one shy of Athletics Hall of Famer Mary Beth Schwindenhammer '97 for third in school history.
Â
Alexander had a single in the first game of the doubleheader before the game was halted at 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning due to rain on April 2 and with the completion of the game, she was credited with her 100
th career hit. She finished with three runs in that game.
Â
Beginning the halted game with one out in the top of the fifth and with a runner on third, Eiswerth got a pair of outs to leave the runner stranded.
Â
Two innings later, junior
Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) led off with a walk before being pinch run for by senior
Jackie Snyder (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area). Junior
Mallory Rodarmel (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) followed with a single to right before first-year
Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) drilled a double that one-hopped the wall to bring in the winning run.
Â
Rodarmel was 2-for-4 and McCracken was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to pace the Warriors.
Â
Alex Douglas was 2-for-4 with a run and Alison Superka was 2-for-4 with a homer for the Eagles. Gracie Ruch (5-7) pitched four innings, allowing four hits and two runs.
Â
In the second game, Alison Superka hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Maryn Swank (3-5) pitched a two-hitter in the 2-0 Juniata win.
Â
The homer spoiled a six-hitter from Eiswerth, as she struck out six of the first seven batters she faced and 11 in the game, including the 300
th strikeout of her career. She walked two.
Superka was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. First-year
Ashley Forrest (Red Hill, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had Lycoming's two hits.
Â
The Warriors wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 26, when they head to the Catholic University of America for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference doubleheader at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
