Maguire, Block lead Warriors in setback against Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -  Senior Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) and junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) each had three goals and an assist to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team as it fell, 20-7, against the University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening, April 2, at Weiss Field. 

In the second minute of the second quarter, Maguire launched the ball to Block, who ushered it into the back of the cage, bringing the score to 8-1. Maguire and Block teamed up in the seventh minute to add another point to the board. In the 11th minute, senior Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md. / Harford Tech) and Block posted back-to-back goals. With 3:13 remaining, Maguire returned with her second goal of the game as Scranton entered halftime with an 11-point lead, 16-5. 

Maguire darted down the field with 1:18 left in the third period to score the Warriors' sixth goal. With 59 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Block added the seventh goal. 

Junior Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del. / Wilmington Charter) and Maguire each snagged three ground balls and made one caused turnover. First-year Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) clocked seven saves in the cage for the Warriors (6-4 overall, 1-2 Landmark).  

Maggie Appelle, Eva Guerino and Lauren Boldis all served as Scranton's goalkeepers. Jillian Lopez and Eileen Hewitt each added four goals for Scranton (6-5 overall, 3-0 Landmark), and Devyn Tanajewski followed with three. Shannon Didominica also contributed six assists. 

The Warriors travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday, April 5, to play against Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at 12 p.m.
