WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) led the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team's offensive efforts, scoring four goals, and senior Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md. / Harford Tech) contributed four assists in a 22-9 setback against Moravian University in Landmark Conference action on Friday afternoon, April 18, at UPMC Field.
Seniors Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) and Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) each added two goals, and first-year Emily Reese (Kingsville, Md. / Eastern Tech) posted one.
Three minutes into the second quarter, Maguire scored the first goal for the Warriors, which Baldwin assisted. Block followed up two minutes later to add another point for Lycoming (7-7 overall, 2-5 Landmark). The Greyhounds entered halftime with an eight-point advantage, 10-2.
Stocker darted around the net and secured a goal in the second minute of the third period. A minute later, Block and Baldwin teamed up to add another point to the board. Nearly 30 seconds later, Baldwin returned to help Stocker score her second goal of the quarter, bringing the score to 11-5, and Maguire followed up with another goal with only 6:24 remaining in play. With 3:34 left in the third quarter, Block made a jumping shot that ended the running clock, bringing the game to 16-7. After Moravian claimed a ten-point lead again, Reese brought the difference to nine with a free-position shot.
With 57 second left in the game, Block caught the ball from Baldwin, shooting it into the back of the cage.
First-year Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) saved 15 shots in the cage for the Warriors. In the cage for Moravian (8-6 overall, 4-2 Landmark), Kayla Graef recorded nine saves.
Kathryn Hunsinger led Moravian (10-6 overall, 6-2 Landmark) with seven goals, Melissa Elefonte followed with four, and Madi Dippel secured three. Jackie Salvatore also assisted five goals for the Greyhounds.
The Warriors travel to Huntingdon, Pa., on Wednesday, April 23, to compete in Landmark Conference action against Juniata College at 5 p.m.
