Warrior pitching holds Moravian in sweep

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – In the first game, the Lycoming College baseball team's bullpen threw four scoreless innings and in the second, junior Jake Wilber (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) threw six no-hit innings to start as Lycoming swept Moravian University, 5-2 and 6-3, in Landmark Conference action at Brandon Park on Saturday, April 18.

Wilber (5-3) threw 7 1/3 innings in the nightcap, allowing three hits, four walks and two runs, as he struck out three and established a new school record for wins in a season with his fifth win of the season. He was joined in the record-breaking column by senior Danny DeLucas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna), who had two hits in the first game to give him a record 53 on the season.

The Warriors (18-15 overall, 10-8 Landmark) jumped out with two runs in the first inning, as DeLucas and junior Brody Lindsey (Monrovia, Md./DeMatha Catholic) each drew walks before junior A.J. Llorente (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) and sophomore Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) each delivered two-out RBI singles.

In the fourth, MacCluen got things started with a double to right before a fielder's choice and a throwing error helped him score and senior Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) reach second base. A single by senior Evan Mok (Daly City, Calif./St. Ignatius) scored Schilling. Mok stole second and scored from there with a heads up running play on a fielder's choice.

Lycoming extended the lead to six runs in the sixth when DeLucas was hit by a pitch before sophomore Sean Perkins (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) tripled to right center.

Wilber meanwhile retired 19 of the first 20 batters he faced, setting down the Greyhounds (10-20 overall, 4-12 Landmark) in order five times in the first six innings before Troy Rabosky broke up the no-hit bid with a homer with one-out in the seventh. Moravian got one more run in the seventh and a single tally in the ninth, but were limited by just five hits in the game.

DeLucas scored twice and MacCluen was 3-for-3 with a run, a double and RBI for the Warriors. Luke Keitsock and Nick Henry each had two hits for the Greyhounds.

Andrew Sagrestano (1-3) tossed four innings, allowing five runs, four hits and four walks.

In the first game, the two teams worked through five scoreless innings before a frantic sixth and seventh set up a 5-2 Lycoming win.

Junior Landon Evans (Millville, Pa./Millville) threw five scoreless innings before two runs crossed in the sixth. After that, first-year Eddie Weindel (Stewartsville, N.J./Philipsburg), junior Joel Inman (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) (3-1) and sophomore Grayson Rinker (Jersey Shore, Pa./Montoursville Area) combined on four scoreless frames to shut down the Greyhounds.

After Moravian scored its two runs, the Warriors rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) reached on a bunt single to leadoff, stole second, took third on a single by DeLucas and scored on a sac fly from Perkins. DeLucas stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a double from Llorente.

In the seventh, the Warriors continued to score, with junior Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) leading off with a single before bunts from junior Josh Bottger (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre Area) and Mok loaded the bases for Reeder, who was promptly hit by a pitch. A sac fly and a groundout scored the final two runs.

DeLucas was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI and Llorente was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Cole Cherkas was 3-for-5 with a run to lead Moravian.

Aaron Flyte (1-2) pitched six-plus innings, allowing seven hits and five runs. He struck out four.
