SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior
A.J. Llorente (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) tossed seven innings, allowing six hits and a run to earn his first win with the Lycoming College baseball team, as he paced Lycoming in a 5-3 win over Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action on Sunday afternoon, March 23, at Bollinger Field.
Llorente (1-1) allowed three walks, but struck out four and left four runners on base, while junior catcher
Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) caught two runners stealing and Llorente induced two double plays to keep the River Hawks (11-7 overall, 4-2 Landmark).
The lone run that he gave up came off a home run by Susquehanna All-American Tony Rossi in the sixth inning.
Sophomore
Grayson Rinker (Jersey Shore, Pa./Montoursville Area) earned his fourth save of the season, striking out two as he retired all four batters he faced in 1 1/3 innings.
Sophomore
Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) led the offense, going 3-for-5 with two runs, a double and a RBI. Junior
Josh Bottger (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre Area) scored two runs, a double and a RBI.
The Warriors got on the board in the fourth inning when senior
Danny DeLucas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) singled to lead off, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a double to center from MacCluen, who moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout.
Bottger led off the fifth with a double, moved to third on a sac bunt and scored on a grounder. MacCluen led off the sixth with a single, took second on a single from sophomore
Sean Perkins (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional), third when Llorente walked and scored on a sac fly from Bottger.
After a Susquehanna run in the sixth, the Warriors added their fifth run in the eighth, as Llorente walked, Bottger reached on a fielder's choice before a walk and two hit batters helped him score.
Michael Gagliardi went 2-for-4 with a run and Rossi was 2-for-3 with a homer to lead the River Hawks. Sam Martucci had a two-RBI double in the eighth.
Ben Gearhart (0-3) pitched six innings for Susquehanna, allowing six hits and three earned runs. He struck out four and walked two.
The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, March 26, when they host Wilkes University at 3:30 p.m. in Landmark Conference action.
