Block tosses in winner over Maritime with 1.5 seconds left

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) got the ball with seven seconds left and dodged to her left, tossing the game-winning goal into the net with 1.5 seconds left to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team to a 14-13 come-from-behind win over SUNY Maritime on Friday afternoon, March 14 at Reinhart Field.

Down by two goals entering the fourth quarter, the Warriors (4-2 overall) rallied with a pair of goals in a 30-second span, one coming from first-year Emily Reese (Kingsville, Md./Eastern Tech) and the game-tying goal coming from sophomore Amina Abbas-Uddin (Beltsville, Md./CMIT Academy North) on an assist from Reese before senior Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) gave Lycoming the lead with a free-position goal. Maritime (2-3 overall) tied the game with 2:12 left, setting up Block's game-winning goal after first-year Jordan Zopp (White Marsh, Md./Concordia Prep) forced a turnover and picked up a ground ball with 34 seconds left.

Block led the Warriors with six goals, reaching 150 in her career with her fifth, and an assist, adding eight draw controls and two caused turnovers. Maguire finished with four goals and an assist, nabbing six ground balls and seven draw controls and senior Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) added two goals, three assists and two ground balls. Baldwin finished the game one assist shy of becoming the second player in school history to reach 100 in a career.

Down 10-4 five minutes into the second quarter, the Warriors rallied with three goals before halftime, with two of those scores coming within a minute of the break, as Block and Maguire both scored to make it 10-7.

In the third quarter, the Warriors continued to rally, closing within a goal four minutes into it after a score from Maguire. Maritime scored the next two goals, but Baldwin scored with 2:51 left to make it 12-10 heading into the final period.

Gabrielle Nicolosi led the Privateers with four goals and two assists and Eva Garcia added two goals and three assists. Morgan Tracy added eight draw controls and three caused turnovers.

First-year goalkeeper Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) stopped 15 shots to earn the win. Maritime's Tori Koenig stopped 11 shots.
