Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) each scored, and first-year
Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) saved 17 shots to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team as it fell, 26-2, against the Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon, March 22.
After Catholic opened the first-quarter scoring in the second minute, Maguire followed up 40 seconds later to hammer a goal to the back of the cage. With seven seconds remaining on the clock in the first quarter, Block took a man-up free position shot that brought the score to 10-2.
Maguire snagged three ground balls and caused two turnovers, and junior
Autumn Shahan (Wilmington, Del. / Wilmington Charter) followed with two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Yanders posted nine saves in the first half and added eight in the second for the Warriors (4-3 overall, 0-1 Landmark). In the cage for the Cardinals (2-6 overall, 1-0 Landmark), Alexandra Ragano and Jamie Handwerger each made two saves.
Madeline Kelly, Maggie Traynor, Peyton Wozniak and Henley Bredemann each added three goals for the Cardinals. Three Cardinals — Brigid Brown, Annie Galarza and Izzy Fiore — scored two goals. Galarza also added six assists. Tori Wilsey and Lindsay Sawyer each secured four ground balls to help Catholic's efforts.
The Warriors travel to Elmira, N.Y., on Wednesday, March 26, to play against Elmira College at 5 p.m.
