Warriors win third straight against Centenary

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – First-year pitcher Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) delivered a single into right-center to drive in junior third baseman Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) with two outs in the sixth inning to lift the Lycoming College softball team to a 6-5 win over Centenary University (N.J.) at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon, March 12.

McCracken (1-0) earned her first win in relief, getting out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the top of the sixth and retired three straight batters, allowing one runner to score on a sac fly, which tied the game after Centenary (1-5 overall) strung five hits and a walk together in the inning.

Sobieski led off the sixth with a double to left, but the next two batters were retired without her advancing, setting up the game-winning hit from McCracken.

In the seventh, senior Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) tossed a 1-2-3 inning, getting a strikeout of the Centenary cleanup hitter to end the game.

The Warriors were led by junior shortstop Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area), who went 3-for-4 with two runs. Sobieski was 2-for-3 with a run, junior left fielder Mallory Rodarmel (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) was 2-for-2 with a run, junior second baseman Alex Eckerson (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored twice and senior Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) added three RBI.

Alexander singled to lead off, took second on an error and reached third on a single from Eckerson. After Eckerson stole second, a passed ball allowed Alexander to score and a sac fly from Daub made it 2-0. Alexander singled in the third to lead off, then moved to third on a sac bunt and scored on a single from Daub. In the fourth, Lycoming got a run when Rodarmel singled before junior first baseman Kristen George (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) delivered a RBI double to the fence. In the fifth, Eckerson reached second on an error, third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly from Daub to make it 5-0.

Sophomore Kendall McAnelly (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) pitched five innings, allowing seven hits, five runs and three walks. She struck out two.

The Cyclones were led by two hits and a run from Jaelynn Miller and Madison Passanante. Sierra Stultz pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits and three earned runs.

The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, March 13, facing Delaware Valley at 11 a.m., and Immaculata at 3 p.m. in Myrtle Beach.
