Warriors sweep up quickly on first day in Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior shortstop Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) had four hits to reach 75 in her career and scored five runs and senior catcher Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) had three hits and six RBI to pace the Lycoming College softball team, which scored 19 unanswered runs to finish the day, beating the University of Minnesota-Morris, 9-1, and SUNY Canton, 10-0, with both games going five innings on Tuesday, March 11.
 
Senior Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) (1-0) tossed a four-hitter against Minn.-Morris, allowing an unearned run and two walks. She struck out six. Sophomore Kendall McAnelly (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) tossed two innings in the second game, allowing one hit and striking out four before first-year Serenity Snyder (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) (1-0) pitched the final three innings against Canton, allowing one hit and striking out five.
 
After Minn.-Morris scored an unearned run in the second inning, the Warriors (2-0 overall) took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. Sophomore right fielder Lauren Miller (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) reached on an error before first-year left fielder Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) delivered a single, setting up an RBI single from Alexander. After a pop out, Daub delivered a sac fly and a passed ball allowed Alexander to score.
 
The Warriors scored six more in the fourth to put the run-rule in effect, with first-year  designated hitter Ashley Forrest (Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), junior third baseman Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) and junior center fielder Mallory Rodarmel (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) all singling to start the inning before hits from McCracken, Alexander and Daub all had hits before coming around to score.
 
Alexander went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI, Forrest was 2-for-3 with a run and McCracken was 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI.
 
Alyssa Thornton (0-1) pitched four innings for the Cougars (0-5 overall), allowing nine hits and five earned runs. She struck out four. Olivia Losee had a run and a hit.
 
Alexander was 2-for-3 with three runs and Daub was 2-for-2 with a run, a double and four RBI to pace the Warriors in their 10-0 win over Canton (0-4 overall).
 
Alexander led off the second game with a walk before junior second baseman Alex Eckerson (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) reached on an error, setting up an RBI single from Daub and a sac fly from Eiswerth.
 
In the second, the Warriors tacked on six runs thanks to five hits, two walks, an error and a bases-clearing double from Daub. They added two more runs in the third, using three hits and two runs to push the runs across.
 
Eckerson was 1-for-3 with three runs, reaching base in all four of her at bats.
 
Maggi Yandoh (0-2) pitched one inning, allowing five hits and six earned runs. She walked three. Torie Moore and Ace Rogers had singles for the Roos.
 
The Warriors are back on the field on Wednesday, March 12, when they face Centenary (N.J.) for a 3 p.m. game at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
