WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Senior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa. / North Pocono) posted 13 points and senior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) added 11 to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team in a 60-52 setback against Juniata College in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening, Feb. 5, at Lamade Gym.
First-year Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) added 10 points, five rebounds and two assists for the Warriors (3-17 overall, 2-11 Landmark). Senior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) contributed nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals and junior Allison Fisher (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) added eight rebounds and two assists. Goldenziel also added four assists and Yoh notched seven rebounds.
Sophomore Ann-Marie McMurtrie (Centre Hall, Pa. / Penns Valley) entered the fourth quarter with a quick-turnaround layup in the first minute, establishing the Warriors' run. Goldenziel drove forward with a jumper a minute later, bringing the score within seven points. After Juniata drained a 3-pointer, Dufner responded with one of her own in the third minute. Yoh pushed forward in the eighth minute to hit a layup, closing the gap to five points. Juniata followed up with a layup seconds later, returning their seven-point advantage. With less than two minutes left in the game, McCracken added a tip-in and a free throw. Goldenziel added a jumper with 43 seconds remaining, and Fisher contributed a tip-in with 30 seconds on the clock, bringing the game to 60-52.
In the second minute of the first quarter, Dufner jumped out with a layup. Fisher followed up by draining a 3-pointer at the beginning of the third minute. Goldenziel added a layup a minute later. After three minutes of defensive action, McCracken returned with a free throw. Yoh answered with a jumper and a free throw to end the period, trailing by five points, 16-11.
In the first six seconds of the second quarter, Goldenziel drove forward with a jumper. Seconds later, McCracken followed up with a layup, helping led the Warriors' early efforts in the period. In the last second of play in the half, Dufner drove forward to make a layup, bringing the Warriors within 10, 27-17, as they entered halftime.
To open the third quarter, Goldenziel secured a jumper. Yoh and Dufner each posted a layup in the second and fourth minutes respectively. Yoh followed up with two free throws, closing the gap to nine points. Yoh answered with a layup ten seconds later before Goldenziel launched a layup and free throw, to bring the Warriors to a six-point differential. Fisher drove in to secure a layup in the seventh minute before McCracken added two free throws in the eighth. McCracken contributed another layup. A series of 3-pointers in the last few minutes of the third quarter though widened Juniata's lead to 45-36 entering the final period.
Steph Emert led Juniata (8-12 overall, 5-8 Landmark) with 21 points. Haily Sherman added 14 and Emily McCann posted eight to the board. Bri Bodtorf contributed seven rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals.
The Warriors travel to Towson, Md., on Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. for Landmark Conference action against Goucher College.
