Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) and senior
Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) each posted six points to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team as it posted a 19-2 win against Wilson College in non-conference action on Monday evening, Feb. 24, at the Robb Sports Complex.
Block posted six goals, grabbed five groundballs and posted two caused turnovers, and Stocker added five goals and one assist, picked up two ground balls and added two caused turnovers to lead the Warriors (2-1 overall). Seniors
Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) and
Alexa Baldwin (Bel Air, Md. / Harford Tech) added five points for the Warriors, including three goals and two assists each. First-year
Emily Reese (Kingsville, Md. / Eastern Tech) followed with three points, all of which came from assists, and also had a caused turnover. Senior
Alyssa Zorbaugh (York, Pa. / West York) also recorded two goals, captured four groundballs and caused two turnovers. Sophomore
Sarah Spring (Williamsport, Pa. / Williamsport Area) also notched four groundballs to help Lycoming's efforts.
Lycoming captured an early lead in the first quarter, which Stocker kickstarted by pushing forward in the fourth minute with the first goal of the night. A minute later, Maguire secured her first goal of the night from a free position shot, and she added another free position goal with two minutes remaining in the period. In the fifth minute, Block drove forward to post her first goal of the period, assisted by Reese. Block led the Warriors' offensive efforts in the first quarter, adding three more goals with less than 3:47 on the clock. Block clocked her second goal of the night off a pass from Maguire, followed up with a free position shot with 1:38 left in play and closed out the period with a goal with one second remaining. With 19 seconds left, Baldwin also added a goal, helping bring Lycoming's advantage to eight at the end of the period.
Two minutes into the second period, Baldwin secured her second goal of the night. Less than a minute later, Stocker advanced toward the cage off a free position shot and recorded her second goal of the night. Block followed suit twenty seconds later with her fifth goal of the night, widening the Warriors' lead to 11-1. Maguire skirted around Wilson's defense to launch her third goal of the night six minutes into second-quarter play. Zorbaugh scored her first goal of the night, bringing Lycoming's lead to 13-1, and three minutes later, Baldwin shot in her third goal of the night, which was aided by Reese, who contributed her third assist of the game.
Block returned to kick off the third quarter, launching the ball in the cage in the fourth minute. Stocker added another goal to the board with less than three minutes remaining. A minute later, Stocker darted down the field after a successful clear and notched another goal to the Warriors' tally, widening Lycoming's advantage to 17-1.
After Maguire snagged a ground ball in the fourth minute of the fourth quarter, Lycoming regained possession of the ball, leading to a goal by Stocker, which raised Lycoming's advantage to 17. Zorbaugh aligned for a free position shot and secured another goal for the Warriors with 6:36 on the clock.
First-year
Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa. / Northwestern Lehigh) served as the Warriors' goalkeeper as Wilson notched five shots.
Alaina Marek had a goal and an assist for Wilson. Sadie Fike also scored for Wilson (0-3 overall). Kaelyn Goff had 14 saves, facing 42 shot attempts by Lycoming.
The Warriors travel to New Jersey, on Sunday, March 2, to play against Stockton in non-conference action at 2 p.m.
