WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Senior Christian Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) connected on a penalty kick in the second half, but the Lycoming College men's soccer team but settled for a draw, as Drew University tied the game in the 76th minute in a 1-1 Landmark Conference decision on Saturday, Oct. 4 at UPMC Field.
Lycoming (3-3-4, 0-0-2) survived a few perilous moments late to secure the result against Drew (6-2-2, 0-1-1), having now drawn each of their first two conference games by identical 1-1 scores.
The first half was a scoreless stalemate as each team took five shots, three on goal, but nobody connected. After the intermission, though, the intensity heated up, leading to a hard foul in the box that led to the game's first goal.
In the 57th minute, Woobay broke free down the pitch, only to be tripped up inside the box by the opposing keeper, resulting in a a penalty kick, which he buried in the left side in the net for his team-high fourth goal of the season..
In the 76th minute, though, Drew's Turkcan Curak fired a shot from the right side of the box that was deflected into goal, evening the match at one apiece.
In the final six minutes, Lycoming's sophomore keeper Jace Bennett (Falling Waters, W.Va. / Spring Mills) left his feet twice to make a pair of game-saving stops, two of his seven saves on the afternoon. Another Drew shot in the waning minutes narrowly missed wide right. However, no one else found the back of the net and the teams walked away with a tie.
The Warriors will be back in action on the road this Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Scranton. Kickoff from Scranton, Pa. will take place at 7 p.m.
