Warriors comeback to down Etown in five

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Holding Elizabethtown College to a .106 hitting percentage, the Lycoming College volleyball team kicked off a tri-match at Thompson Gymnasium with a five-set Landmark Conference win, 15-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 15-13, over the hosts before falling in three sets, 25-15, 25-11, 25-5, to Rowan University in the second match on Saturday, Oct. 18.
 
The Warriors (13-11 overall, 2-5 Landmark) jumped into sixth place in the Landmark Conference with the win as the team gets set for the final weekend of the regular season with a chance to earn one of the six conference tournament bids.
 
First-year Kamryn Skeith (Monroe, Wash./Sultan) had 15 kills, 19 assists, eight digs and four blocks against the Blue Jays (13-10 overall, 1-4 Landmark) and first-year Addison Morgan (Bethlehem, Pa./Northampton) also had a double-double with 18 assists and 13 digs.
 
Senior Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) posted 10 kills and seven blocks, posting a .286 hitting percentage. First-year Charlene Petreshock (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) added nine kills and seven digs and first-year Emi Wenger (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) added seven kills and 14 digs.
 
Sophomore Jadea Toth (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled) racked up a career-best 26 digs and first-year Gabrielle VonStein (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) added 14. First-year Lara DeFreitas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) also had 10.
 
Lucy Stanek posted 24 kills and 21 digs, Angela Quimet posted 35 assists, Emma Rizzutto added six aces and Lucy Stern posted 26 digs for the Blue Jays.
 
The two teams were tied seven times in the fourth set before a run of five straight points off Toth's serve helped Lycoming take control. The Blue Jays led 12-9 in the fifth set before a block from Skeith and junior Alli Macensky (Galeton, Pa./Galeton Area) set off a run of five straight Lycoming points. Skeith capped the match with a kill to make it 15-13.
 
Rowan hit .368 in the second match while holding Lycoming to a negative hitting percentage to post the sweep.
 
Wenger, Petreshock and sophomore Angela Farnham (La Plata, Md./McDonough) led the team with three kills. Morgan had six assists and Toth posted eight digs.
 
Jena Kaul notched 12 kills, Vanessa Hutchinson had 11 digs, Raven Albrecht had 30 assists and Nia Ipeker had four aces for the Profs (17-4 overall).
 
Lycoming is back on the court on Friday, Oct. 24, when they host Wilkes University at 7 p.m., at Lamade Gym.
