WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Sophomore Alyssa Reisinger (Kulpmont, Pa. / Mount Carmel Area) led the Lycoming College women's basketball team with 12 points and five rebounds in an 88-64 setback against Elizabethtown College, which is tied in 23rd place by the WBCA Division III Coaches Poll, in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 25, at Lamade Gym.
Senior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) also added nine points for the Warriors (2-15 overall, 1-9 Landmark). Senior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) recorded eight points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal. Senior Alicia Goldenziel (Moscow, Pa. / North Pocono) secured eight points, three assists and three rebounds.
Senior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa. / North Schuylkill) earned two 3-pointers, which gives her 158 in her collegiate career. Wetzel is seven 3-pointers shy of the school record, which Allison Mock '09 set with 165.
Elizabethtown (15-2 overall, 9-1 Landmark) jumped out with an early lead, recording a layup and a free throw in the first twenty seconds. Reisinger answered by hitting a jumper in the first minute to get the Warriors on the board. Wetzel followed up with a 3-pointer in the second minute before Yoh responded with a jumper, bringing the Warriors to a one-point advantage. Elizabethtown secured a layup, taking back the advantage for a minute.
In the sixth minute of the first quarter, Dufner raced down the floor and hit a layup, reclaiming Lycoming's lead. Junior Kami Abdo (Pottsville, Pa. / Nativity BVM) and Reisinger furthered the Warriors' advantage with a layup and jumper respectively, which brought the Warriors' lead to 13-8. Yoh added two free throws in the eighth minute. A few seconds later, Wetzel shot the ball through Elizabethtown's defensive efforts to Goldenziel, who made a successful jumper. Reisinger tied the game, 19-19, with seven seconds left in the period by making a layup.
To kick off the second quarter, the Blue Jays secured four layups, a 3-pointer and a jumper to lead 32-21. Yoh secured a layup in the fifth minute and Reisinger added one in the sixth. A minute later, Yoh returned with another layup and Reisinger followed up with a free throw. Dufner secured two free throws with four seconds remaining, bringing the score to 39-30 entering halftime.
Dufner started the third quarter with a layup 19 seconds into play, and Reisinger followed less than a minute later with a free throw, which brought the Warriors within six points of the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown responded with a 3-pointer and a layup in the third minute to widen their advantage to 11 points. Goldenziel secured back-to-back free throws in the fourth minute and junior Allison Fisher (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) followed up with a 3-pointer. Goldenziel returned with a jumper in the fifth minute and a layup in the seventh minute. Yoh contributed a free throw in the eighth minute as the Warriors ended the period trailing 60-43.
Sophomore Sydnie Stone (Muncy Valley, Pa. / Montoursville Area) jumped out with a layup in the first minute of the fourth quarter and Fisher followed up with two free throws at the beginning of the second minute. Dufner contributed a free throw a minute later before sophomore Ann-Marie McMurtrie (Centre Hall, Pa. / Penns Valley) came in with a layup. Abdo drained a 3-pointer, assisted by McMurtrie, seconds later, bringing the score to 69-54. First-year Summer Emlet (New Cumberland, Pa. / Red Land) added a free throw in the fifth minute and Abdo added two more in the sixth minute before Emlet returned with a successful jumper. With a minute left in play, senior Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) made a free throw, junior Katie Bena (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill) added a layup, and first-year Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) secured another layup.
Cyleigh Wilson led the Blue Jays with 25 points and Allyia Kennedy closely followed with 24 points. Wilson recorded four assists and three steals. Kennedy also added nine rebounds, eight steals, three assists and one block.
The Warriors travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. for a Landmark Conference game against Wilkes University.
