Pardoe pours in career-high 26 at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Hayden Pardoe (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) recorded a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, which fell to the University of Scranton, 70-62, in Landmark Conference action at the John Long Center on Wednesday night, Jan. 22.

Pardoe hit 10-of-16 from the field and 3-of-7 from downtown to lead a group of three Warriors (2-14 overall, 1-8 Landmark) in double figures. Senior Ivan Komitski (Sofia, Bulgaria/Lee Academy (Maine)) added 14 points, five rebounds and two assists and junior Isaiah Valentine (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) posted 10 points and five rebounds, reaching 750 career points with his last bucket of the evening. Sophomore Connor Shanahan (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) added seven points and eight assists.

The Warriors led 9-5 four and a half minutes into the game after a driving layup from Pardoe and the two teams fought through eight ties and six lead changes in the first half. Pardoe hit a 3-pointer to give Lycoming a 25-21 lead with 9:14 left before Scranton (8-8 overall, 3-6 Landmark) went on a 16-4 run to lead 37-29 at halftime.

The Royals extended their advantage to 13 four minutes into the second half before a Pardoe 3-pointer and layup from first-year Noah Mathis (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) cut the Scranton advantage to 46-38. Moments later, the Warriors had seven unanswered points, the last coming from a 3-pointer from Komitski to make it 50-45 with 9:45 left.

The Royals scored six straight before the Warriors answered with seven to close within four off a 3-pointer from Shanahan with 5:43 left and they cut the lead down to three twice in the waning minutes, but a 3-pointer from Jon Spatola with 1:59 left thwarted the comeback attempt.

Will McLoughlin led the Royals with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists and Spatola added 14 points and three assists. Sammy Tornabene posted 15 points and two blocks and Kylon Brown posted 11 points, as the Royals shot 42 percent (24-of-58) from the field.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 25, when they host Elizabethtown College at 4 p.m. to wrap up a Landmark Conference doubleheader after the women's teams play at 2 p.m.
