WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) scored twice for the Lycoming College women's soccer team during the second half, as Lycoming answered an early goal by Penn State-Abington with a four-goal run to close out a 4-1 win in the team's home opener on Thursday, Sept. 5, at UPMC Field.
Junior Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes) assisted Williamson on the first goal in the 72nd minute, while sophomore Kaitlyn Born (Hamilton, N.J. / South Brunswick) assisted on the second in the waning seconds.
Sophomore Julia Bidelspach (Myerstown, Pa. / ELCO) fired in Lycoming's first goal in the 41st minute of the first half to tie the game, assisted by seniors Madison Maihle (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) and Kylie Brodkorb (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) on a pretty play started with a pass by Brodkorb to Maihle down the sideline, who fired a perfect cross to Bidelspach, who beat the keeper for the score.
Sophomore Ella Magee (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) fired in a penalty kick goal in the 52nd minute, following a foul in the box drawn by Born. It was Magee's team-leading fourth goal of the year.
The Warriors (3-0 overall) kept the Nittany Lions (0-2 overall) at bay after Penn St.-Abington's initial goal during the 13th minute, which was shot by Madison McDowell.
In net for the Warriors, first year Marissa Price (Hicksville, N.Y. / Hicksville) notched one save in the first half, while sophomore Mia Pollack (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood) finished with two in the second. The Nittany Lions' keeper, Rachel Wilifrid, finished with 11 stops.
Lycoming finished with six corner kicks.
The Warriors return to UPMC Field on Saturday, Sept. 7, where they compete against Keuka College in non-conference action at 1 p.m.
