Warriors continue hot start with 3-0 win at Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Senior Madison Maihle (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) blasted in a shot from 25 yards out in the first half, sparking the Lycoming College women's soccer team to a 3-0 win against Alvernia University on Tuesday, Sept. 17, in non-conference play at the Alvernia Turf Field.

In the 21st minute, Maihle launched her goal into the high-right corner of the net, finishing the play off a pass from junior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick), as the Warriors (7-0 overall) extended their win streak to a school-record seven games.

 

Twenty-nine minutes into the second half, sophomore Kaitlyn Born (Hamilton, N.J. / South Brunswick) passed the ball to sophomore Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area), who blasted a 15-yarder into the lower-right corner past a diving keeper.

 

Junior Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes) secured Lycoming's third game goal with a high center shot from outside in the waning moments to cap off the shutout.

In net for the Warriors, junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic), sophomore Mia Pollack (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood), and first-year Marissa Price (Hicksville, N.Y. / Hicksville) each notched one save. The Golden Wolves' Brynn Bock saved three of Lycoming's shots, and Marissa Cirillo also made one.

Lycoming launched 18 shots compared to Alvernia's six. Alvernia fell to 2-4 overall.

The Warriors host Ithaca College, ranked second in the latest United Soccer Coaches' Region II poll, on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m., at UPMC Field.
