Warriors fall to defending national champs

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Dawson Debebe (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) caught a 36-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to highlight the day for the Lycoming College football team, which fell to the defending national champions, #2 SUNY Cortland, 70-7, in non-conference action at Grady Field on Saturday, Sept. 14.
 
The Warrior touchdown came on Lycoming's first drive of the second half, as Lycoming (1-1 overall) drove 75 yards on seven plays before senior Will Fish (Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) connected with Debebe on the 36-yard pass play.
 
The Red Dragons (2-0 overall) scored touchdowns on eight of its first nine drives and 10 of 14 in the game.
 
Fish finished 8-of-18 for 114 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Sophomore Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) rushed nine times for 23 yards and junior Karson Kline (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) caught three passes for 41 yards.
 
Junior Tyler Marshall (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had another solid day in kickoff returns, returning one 50 yards and finishing with 93 yards on three opportunities. Sophomore David Schley (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) finished with 11 tackles, Marshall added six and senior Michael Sipps (Lawrenceville, Pa./Cowanesque Valley) also added six, adding 0.5 tackles for loss and two punts inside the 20. First-year Collin McKeague (Pen Argyl, Pa./Pen Argyl) added five tackles and an interception.
 
Zac Boyes was 18-of-19 for 340 yards and three touchdowns for Cortland. Ethan Gallo ran 17 times for 73 yards and three touchdowns. Jaden Alfano St. John caught seven passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Jaden Martinez led the Red Dragons with eight tackles, two for loss and Frankie Ciaramito had four tackles and an interception.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they head to Utica University for a 12 p.m. game.
