Warriors fall to Utica, 42-17

UTICA, N.Y. – Despite piling up more than 300 yards of total offense, the Lycoming College football team fell to Utica University, 42-17 in non-conference action at Thomas Gaetano Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21.
 
Sophomore Terrence Oliver (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) rushed 16 times for 71 yards and sophomore Quasim Benson (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) added 13 rushes for 38 yards to lead the rushing attack. Senior Will Fish (Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) went 11-for-30 for 131 yards and sophomore Jay Huber (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) was 8-for-14 for 88 yards and a touchdown.
 
Senior Billy Coppock (Collingdale, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) led the receivers, catching six passes for 72 yards and a score and junior Dawson Debebe (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) caught five passes for 71 yards.
 
Senior Joey Rivituso (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame-Green Pond) led the defense, posting 11 tackles, one for loss, and he also added a fumble recovery. Junior Ryan Pentz (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) had six tackles. Sophomore Stephen Goodman (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) had two tackles for loss and a sack.
 
Lycoming (1-2 overall) finished with 314 yards of total offense to Utica's 357, added one more first down and held the ball for nearly 10 more minutes, but Utica (2-1 overall) scored touchdowns on five drives of 50 or more yards to stay in front of the Warriors.
 
Down 21-3, the Warriors embarked on a 13-play, 75-yard drive that ate 6:22 off the clock in the second quarter, with Oliver rushing four times for 36 yards on the drive to get the ball to the doorstep, where Fish, who completed three first-down passes on the drive, crossed the goalline himself to make it 21-10 at the half.
 
The Pioneers scored the first two touchdowns of the second half to take a 35-10 lead before the Warriors embarked on a 65-yard drive, with Huber finding Coppock for a 17-yard score with 3:56 left to round out Lycoming's scoring.
 
After a two-touchdown first quarter from Utica, the Warriors got on the board with an 11-play, 44-yard drive that sandwiched the quarters. A 21-yard pass from Fish to Debebe got the ball inside the 20 and set up a 25-yard field goal from first-year Kyle Flack (Southampton, Pa./William Tennant).
 
Matt Brantley rushed 19 times for 151 yards and two scores and James Salles rushed 12 times for 104, as Utica gained 292 yards on the ground. Brett Fuller passed 15 times, completing six for 65 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Norman Booth had 10 tackles, two for loss and a sack and Eli Douglas notched nine tackles, one interception return for a touchdown and two breakups to lead the Pioneer defense.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 28, when they host Hilbert College in their last non-conference game at 1 p.m. at David Person Field.
