Warriors fall in La Roche tri-match

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Senior Ali Koval (Mansfield, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) notched 35 digs and senior Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) added 29 to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team, which fell to Bethany College (W.Va.), 3-1 (20-25, 25-12, 25-16, 26-24) and 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-19) to La Roche University in a tri-meet at the Kerr Fitness & Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 14.
 
The Warriors (3-5 overall) won the first set against the Bison (5-6 overall), but Bethany hit .357 in the second set to get momentum before taking the last three sets.
 
Bisel led the Warriors with 13 kills and 18 digs for her third double-double and junior Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) added 11 kills, hitting .364. Senior Jessica Ahart (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) added seven kills. Sophomore Haley Balgavy (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) posted 18 assists and two aces and sophomore Ima Mercado (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) added 14 assists. Koval led the defense with 20 digs and first-year Liz Mayer (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) added two blocks.
 
Averie Braymer posted 14 kills, Talia Gallagher posted 35 assists, Andie Clark had five aces and Anna Taylor notched 26 digs for the Bison.
 
La Roche (3-2 overall) held the Warriors to a .025 hitting percentage in the sweep.
 
Upcraft posted six kills and three aces to lead Lycoming, and first-year Angela Farnham (La Plata, Md./McDonough) each had four. Balgavy had nine assists, Koval notched 15 digs and Bisel also added 11 digs.
 
Kylie Fehlman posted 10 kills for the Redhawks, Brooke Bednarski added 22 assists, Megan Bologna had three aces and Kenzie Kerkan posted 16 digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday night, Sept. 17, when they head to Penn State-Altoona for a 7 p.m. match.
