ALFRED, N.Y. - First-year Sadie Stahl (Duboistown, Pa./South Williamsport), and seniors Rei Saar (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) won singles and doubles matches on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Alfred, N.Y., to lead the Lycoming College women's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Alfred University.
Lanphear clinched the match with a 10-8 tiebreaker win over Allison Windisch at No. 3 singles after she won the first set, 6-2, and fell in the second, 5-7.
Saar defeated Alfred's Alyssa Seegert in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5, overcoming a 5-2 deficit in the second set to win the match.
In No. 4 singles, Stahl took home a win, 6-3, 6-1, against Rebecca Epping.
Opening the competition, Saar (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and junior Emma Kelchner (Nescopeck, Pa./Central Columbia) began the match with a 6-2 win in their No. 1 doubles match against Windisch and Elizabeth Madsen.
In the No. 2 doubles match, Stahl and Lanphear beat Alfred's Seegert and Epping with a 6-3 final score to clinch the doubles point.
The Warriors are back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 17, when they host Lock Haven University at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts at 4 p.m.
