Mike Clark announced on Wednesday, June 12.
"I would like to thank President Kent Trachte, Athletic Director Mike Clark, Associate AD Joe Guistina, and everyone that was part of the selection committee for this unbelievable opportunity," Schwien said. "In addition, I would like to say thank you to all the coaches, student-athletes and administrators who have helped prepare me for this incredible opportunity. I am so grateful and excited to be able to lead the Lycoming men's soccer program and build on to the rich soccer history that already exists. "John's infectious attitude and his love of the sport of soccer are two of the things that immediately impressed us during the hiring process and we think that is going to be evident with any student-athlete that he works with," Clark said. "He has worked with two very respected coaches in the Central Pa., soccer community in Dave Brandt and Pat Long, and they both noted that John's athlete-focused coaching is exemplary. Prior to his stint with the Jaguars, Schwien was a graduate assistant for two seasons at Lock Haven University, where he was part of the Bald Eagles' 2018 team that won an ECAC championship. Schwien was key in the recruitment of All-American Andrea DiSomma for the Bald Eagles.
Schwien earned a pair of All-American citations from the NCCAA at Division II Cedarville University. He was a three-time All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference selection and a two-time First Team OCSA All-Ohio Division II selection. He was also named to the All-GMAC Academic Team three times and was a two-time OCSA All-Ohio DII Academic Team pick.
Along with semi-professional playing experience with the Crew's U23 team, Dayton Dutch Lions, and Buxmont Torch FC, Schwien also has an extensive coaching background at the elite club level, where he has coached with the Dayton Dutch Lions and Penn Fusion Soccer Academy. He holds a USSF 'D' Coaching License.
Schwien earned a Bachelor of Arts in business management from Cedarville University in 2018 and a Master of Science in sport administration from Lock Haven University in 2019. He and wife, Katherine, have two daughters, Riley and Ruby, and reside in Lewisburg.
