SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior
Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) scored a run and drove in two to pace the fifth-seeded Lycoming College softball team in a 3-0 win over fourth-seeded Susquehanna University in the Landmark Conference Championship play-in game on Tuesday afternoon, May 7.
Â
Junior
Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) (7-7) and senior
Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) combined on a five-hit shutout to send the Warriors (16-14 overall) into the double-elimination four-team Landmark Conference Championship at Moravian University, which begins on Friday, May 10, when the Warriors face top-seeded Moravian at 1 p.m.
Â
Eiswerth pitched the first four innings, allowing three hits and a walk. She struck out two, including the last batter that she faced to get out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth. Russell tossed three innings for her first save of the year, allowing two hits and striking out one. She got the benefit of an unconventional double play in the seventh after a leadoff double. The following batter bunted, but sophomore
Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) fielded it quickly, fired to sophomore
Kristen George (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) at first, who fired home to junior
Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) to get the runner trying to score, ending the River Hawks (19-18 overall) threat.
Â
The Warriors left runners on second and third in the first two innings before breaking through in the third. Segraves led off with a walk, moved to second on a bunt and scored on a two-out, two-strike opposite field single from sophomore
Alex Eckerson (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic).
Â
Lycoming added two more in the fourth, as Russell was hit with a pitch with two outs before sophomore
Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) singled into left, setting up Segraves, who delivered an opposite field pay-off pitch double in front of a diving outfielder, allowing both runners to score.
Â
Segraves finished 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI and Eckerson was also 2-for-4 with a RBI to lead Lycoming's seven-hit attack.
Â
Zoe Bork was 2-for-3 for the River Hawks. Amanda Amerman (6-6) pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs. She struck out four.
