Miller tosses shutout to lead Warriors past Juniata

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Noah Miller (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) threw the first complete game shutout by a Lycoming College baseball player since 1970 to lead the team to a 5-0 Landmark Conference win over Juniata College on Saturday, May 4, at Brandon Park. The Warriors fell to Juniata, 3-2, in 10 innings in the second game of the doubleheader to conclude the 2024 season.
 
Miller, who struck out seven and walked two in the gem, allowed just the leadoff batter to reach third base and left two runner stranded at second in the second and third innings before he retired 17 of the last 18 batters he faced, including the last batter looking on his 112th pitch.
 
Miller is the first Warrior complete-game shutout  since May 16, 1970, when Norm Myers tossed a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Juniata.
 
The Warriors (9-31 overall, 3-21 Landmark) got on the board in the fourth inning, as sophomore Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) singled to lead off, moved to second on a grounder, third on a single to left by first-year Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) before scoring when the throw in was mishandled. MacCluen scored on a double by sophomore Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township), who scored on a single into right center by senior Joey Trout (North East, Md./St. Elizabeth.
 
In the eighth, Reeder tripled to lead off before MacCluen hit the first homer by the Warriors at the new park.
 
Reeder was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs and MacCluen was 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI to lead the Warriors.
 
Derek Gehr (2-4) pitched a complete game for the Eagles (17-23 overall, 7-17 Landmark), allowing nine hits and five runs. He struck out four and walked one.
 
In the second game, Juniata used a pair of unearned runs to post a 3-2 win in both teams' season finale.
 
Reeder led off the game with a triple down the left field line and scored when sophomore Zachary Pleska (Salem, Ohio/Columbiana) singled.
 
Juniata tied the game in the fourth and that was the last run until the 10th, when Juniata scored two unearned runs. Junior Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) walked to lead off, moved to second on a grounder and scored on a two-out hit from junior Evan Mok (Daly City, Calif./St. Ignatius).
 
Reeder was 2-for-5 with a  run and Mok was 2-for-5 with a RBI for the Warriors. Bakken was 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Eagles.
 
Sophomore Jake Wilber (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits and a run. He struck out four. Sophomore Joel Inman (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. First-year Grayson Rinker (Jersey Shore, Pa./Montoursville Area) (0-3) allowed two hits, two walks and struck out two in the 10th.
 
Jason Waguespack (3-2) earned the win, allowing one hit and one run in three innings of relief. He struck out two and walked one for the Eagles.
