Alexander collects four hits at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Sophomore Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) had four hits to lead the Lycoming College softball team, as it fell in a pair of Landmark Conference games, 8-5 and 13-2 in five innings, at Juniata College on Wednesday afternoon, April 24.
 
Alexander was one of five Warriors (13-12 overall, 6-6 Landmark) at the top of the lineup with two hits in the first game, as Juniata (18-14 overall, 10-4 Landmark) used a four-run fifth to escape with an 8-5 win.
 
Alexander was 2-for-4 with two runs, senior Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) was 2-for-4 with a run, junior Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI, junior Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and senior Rachel DeWolfe (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) was 2-for-4 with a homer.
 
Alexander led off the game with a single, took second on a groundout, stole third and scored on a single to right by Daub, but Juniata scored two in the first and one in the second to lead 3-1. The Warriors rallied back with three in the third to take the lead, as Alexander doubled, Segraves singled to center and Daub drove them both in with a double before Eiswerth had an RBI single.
 
After Juniata tied the game in the third, the Warriors took the lead in the fifth with a homer from DeWolfe, but the Eagles rallied in the bottom of the inning with four runs.
 
Dani Berlin led the Eagles, as she was was 3-for-3 with a run and two RBI.
 
Gracie Ruch (5-2) earned the win, allowing six hits and a run in five innings of relief. Senior Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (8-4) allowed six hits and four runs in three innings. She walked two and struck out three.
 
Alexander had two of the team's six hits in the night cap, where Juniata scored 11 runs in the second and third innings en route to the 13-2 win.
 
Alexander got the Warriors started in the first inning with a leadoff single before Segraves reached on a bunt single. After she stole second, a pair of sac flies scored the two Warrior runs in the game.
 
Alex Douglass was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI and Jessie Hunt was 2-for-2 with a double, a homer, three runs and four RBI to lead the Eagles.
 
Kenzie Tapias (1-0) tossed four innings in the win, allowing five hits and two runs. Senior Cathryn Brought (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) (0-2) allowed seven hits and eight runs in 1 2/3 for the Warriors.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 27, when they face Catholic in a critical Landmark Conference doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
