WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) hit a fifth-inning grand slam, tying a school record with two home runs in a game, drove in all six runs and threw a complete-game six-hitter to lead the Lycoming College softball team to a 6-2 win over the 20th-ranked Moravian University to kick off the program's Landmark Conference era on Friday, March 29, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.Â
Eiswerth's big blast came with one out in the fifth inning, as first-year Hana Styers (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) hit an infield single, reached second when sophomore Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) reached on an error and took third when senior Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. After a popout, Eiswerth delivered a drive down the line to give Lycoming (8-5 overall, 1-1 Landmark) a 6-2 lead.Â
Eiswerth tied the game with a solo homer in the fourth inning. She drove in the other Lycoming run in the first, as Alexander singled to right, took second on a sac bunt and scored when Eiswerth doubled into right center.Â
Moravian (10-5 overall, 2-2 Landmark) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, but Eiswerth closed the door in the last three innings, retiring the last nine batters she faced, getting the help of an unassisted double play by sophomore Kristen George (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) in the sixth inning.Â
Alexander went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.Â
Eiswerth (4-3) allowed one earned run and one walk in the game, striking out eight in the complete game win. Madi Cunningham (5-2) pitched five innings, alowing six hits and five earned runs. She walked one and struck out seven.Â
In the second game, Natalie Otto (3-0) threw a three-hitter for the Greyhounds, striking out nine, as they posted four-run first inning and four-run sixth to post a 9-0 win.Â
Junior Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area), senior Rachel DeWolfe (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and sophomore Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) had hits for the Warriors.Â
Lindsey Gawrys went 3-for-3 with three runs, a triple, a homer and RBI, Marcie Silberman went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI to lead Moravian.Â
Senior Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (4-2) pitched four innings for the Warriors, allowing five runs. She struck out five.Â
The Warriors head to Juniata College for a 3 p.m. Landmark Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 3.Â
