STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - First-year Will Eberz (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) shot an 8-over-par 79 to help the Lycoming College golf team post a first-round score of 343, the program's best score in 17 years, to kick off the Pennsylvania D3 Classic at the par-71, 6,328-yard Penn State Golf Course White Course on Friday, March 29.
The Warriors had three players shoot in the 80s, as its score of 343 was the best since the team posted a 330 in the third round of the 2007 MAC Freedom Championship, helping it finish in a program record second.
Lycoming finished the first day of the tournament tied for 16th with Pitt-Bradford in an 18-team field. Allegheny leads the tournament, after a 289 in the first round, two strokes ahead of Franklin & Marshall and four ahead of Swarthmore.
Eberz' eight-over-par 79 has him tied for 34th in a field of 103. He notched eight pars and added a birdie on the par-five, 492-yard No. 18.
First-year Mikey Fry (Muncy, Pa./Muncy Area) posted a 13-over-par 84 to finish the day tied for 68th. Fry had a birdie on the par-5, 532-yard No. 3 and added seven pars in his round.
Sophomore Dylan Seck (Athens, Pa./Sayre Area) posting a 17-over par 88, who also birdied the third hole, and senior Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) rounded out the scoring four with a 21-over-par 92 in his first action of the season.
Sophomore Kyle Davis (Liberty, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) also had a 30-over-par 101.
The Warriors wrap up the Pennsylvania D3 Classic on Saturday, March 30, when they tee off at 10 a.m. at the Penn State Golf Course White Course.
