Warriors fall in doubleheader with Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – Four Lycoming College baseball players finished with two hits in one of the games and the team held a lead in each game, but fell in each end of a doubleheader at Marymount University, falling 3-1 and 11-4 in non-conference action at Capital One Park on Sunday, Feb. 25.
 
In the first game, the Warriors (0-6 overall) scored first, but left the tying runs on base in the seventh inning in a 3-1 setback to the Saints (6-0 overall).
 
The Warriors got on the board in the second inning, as sophomore Ben Glad (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley), junior Jake Schilling (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) and sophomore Nick Hoheb (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) all singled to load the bases with one out. After a strikeout, sophomore Jack Kelly (Alexandria, Va./Alexandria City) was hit by a pitch to drive in a run.
 
The Saints used two hits, a walk, and a hit batter to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth, with J Dickson providing a two-run double to cap the inning.
 
Lycoming got started in the seventh inning, as Schilling and Hoheb each singled before a sac bunt moved the runners into scoring position, but a strikeout and a flyout ended the game.
 
Schilling and Hoheb each finished 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors, as they wrapped eight hits in the game.
 
Lycoming allowed just four hits in the contest, with sophomore Jake Wilber (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) tossing four innings, allowing three runs, four hits, two walks and two strikeouts before first-year Alex Halbert (Laurel, Md./Atholton) delivered two hitless frames.
 
Braeden Lencz earned the win, allowing eight hits and striking out five in 6 1/3 innings. Kyle Lewis earned the save, delivering the last two outs.
 
In the second game, the Warriors scored one run in each of the second to fourth innings to lead 3-1, but the Saints posted nine runs in the mid-portion of the game to take an 11-4 decision.
 
Sophomore Nick Reeder (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) finished 2-for-4 with a run and first-year Ryan Tan (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) went 2-for-3. First-year Eric MacCluen (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) went 1-for-3 with a run, a homer and two RBI.
 
The Warriors got on the board in the second inning when sophomore Julian Stellar (Kulpmont, Pa./Mount Carmel Area) hit a two-out double, took third on a balk and scored on an error to tie the game. In the third, the Warriors got on the board, as Reeder reached on a fielder's choice, took second on a balk, third on an error and scored on a sac fly. In the fourth, MacCluen delivered the first Warrior homer of the year, drilling a pitch beyond left-center's fence.
 
After the Saints scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, they scored five in the fifth and three in the sixth to lead 10-3. In the eighth, Lycoming scored one more run, as junior Danny DeLucas (Whittier, Calif./La Serna) doubled to lead off before Tan singled into center field. After a fly out, DeLucas scored on a sac fly from MacCluen.
 
Ryan Cuadros finished 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI and Andrew Schaeb went 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBI to lead the Saints.
 
Sophomore Noah Miller (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs, eight hits and a walk in four innings. He struck out three. Parker Casselberry (1-0) earned the win for the Saints, allowing seven hits and an earned run in six innings. He struck out three.
 
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, March 2, when they face Hobart at 11:30 a.m. to start a doubleheader at Wilkes University.
