WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Junior Allison Fisher (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) secured a season high 19 points with three 3-pointers and eight free throws, as she hit all 12 shots she took to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team to its first win of the season, 83-40, against Wilkes University in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, at Lamade Gym.
Fisher hit two free throws in the first quarter before adding a 3-pointer, an assist, and two more free throws in the second. After halftime, Fisher posted four free throws, two 3-pointers, and a layup to lead the Warriors in the third quarter.
Also helping the Warriors' efforts, as the team shot 45 percent from the floor (24-of-53) and 50 percent from 3 (8-of-16), senior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) and first-year Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) each added nine points. Senior Mya Wetzel (Frackville, Pa. / North Schuylkill) secured 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
The Warriors (1-4 overall, 1-2 Landmark Conference) established the lead in the first quarter, ending the period ahead, 21-13. Wetzel notched two 3-pointers during the period and sophomore Makenna Hartman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) notched two layups.
Dufner, McCracken, first-year Summer Emlet (New Cumberland, Pa. / Red Land) kickstarted the second quarter with two jumpers, a layup, and free throws in the first four minutes of the period. Wetzel and Fisher followed up with back-to-back 3-pointers within a minute as the period ended with the Warriors ahead, 46-18.
Senior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) pushed the Warriors ahead with a layup a minute into the third quarter, and she added another in the paint four minutes later. Dufner, Fisher, sophomore Makenna Hartman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) all contributed free throws to the scoreboard to widen the Warriors' lead to 70-35 at the end of the quarter.
With free throws by McCracken and Dufner starting the fourth quarter, sophomore Sydnie Stone (Muncy Valley, Pa. / Montoursville Area) followed up with a layup. Emlet hit two free throws and a 3-pointer within the final four minutes of play before senior Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) contributed the last jumper of the game with 35 seconds left in play.
For Wilkes (0-8 overall, 0-3 conference), Nadia Evanosky led the team's efforts with 11 points, followed by Maliyah Warren with 10 and Dana Wartzenluft with eight.
The Warriors return to the Lamade Gym on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. for a Landmark Conference game against Drew University.
