WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Senior Meghan Dufner (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional) hit two free throw shots with two minutes left in the fourth quarter to give the Lycoming College women's basketball team the lead, but King's College scored the game's last six points to survive, 60-55, in non-conference play on Saturday evening, Nov. 16, in their second home game of the season.
Junior Allison Fisher (Lower Burrell, Pa. / Burrell) swept a three-pointer into the hoop in the fourth minute of the fourth quarter, bringing the Warriors to just a point back from King's (2-1 overall), 51-50. The Warriors (0-2 overall) hunkered down from there, as senior Ashley Yoh (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) ushered in a free throw and Fisher flipped in a free throw two minutes later to tie the game at 53-53 before Dufner's free throws gave Lycoming the lead.
To kick off the game, King's jumped out with four straight points before Fisher made a three-pointer to get the Warriors on the board in the third minute. Dufner also posted a three-pointer, and Yoh added a jumper and free throws to lead Lycoming's efforts. However, King's College led 19-11 as the first quarter ended.
Fisher kicked off Lycoming's comeback in the second period with three free throws and a 3-pointer, bringing the Warriors to down 13 with less than five minutes left in the quarter. Sophomore Makenna Hartman (Alexandria, Pa. / Juniata Valley) also led Lycoming's efforts with a tip-in and two layups in the last three minutes, closing the gap to 35-26 as halftime came.
Two minutes into the third quarter, Dufner posted a successful jumper, and Fisher shot a three-pointer as the Warriors cut into King's early lead. In the last five minutes of the quarter, first-year Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area) shot a jumper and three layups to bring the Warriors to within six, 45-39. With two minutes left in the third period, Dufner posted two free throws, Yoh added a layup, and McCracken shot another layup to close the gap to four by the start of the fourth.
Fisher led the Warriors with 18 points, followed by Yoh with 11 and McCracken with 10. Dufner also contributed to the Warriors' efforts with nine points and seven rebounds.
For King's College, Lauren Casey led the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Nov. 19, when they head to Juniata College for a 7 p.m. kickoff to Landmark Conference play.
