SCRANTON, Pa. - The Lycoming College women's soccer team scored twice in the first half but regionally-ranked University of Scranton scored twice in the last seven minutes to escape with a 4-2 Landmark Conference win on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Weiss Field.
Senior Haley Schafer (Camden, Del. / Caesar Rodney) launched it to Bidelspach, who rocketed it into the high left corner of the net in the 37th minute to help the Warriors (9-2-2 overall, 1-1-1 Landmark) close within a goal after two early goals from the Royals (9-1-2 overall, 3-0 Landmark).
Two minutes later, senior Kylie Brodkorb (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) lifted a corner kick that ended up in the upper left corner, securing the Warriors' second goal as the game entered halftime knotted at two.
Morgan Griffin broke the deadlock in the 84th minute and Molly Martys added a score in the 87th minute to help the defending conference champions sneak away with the win.
Lycoming made seven shots and four corners, while Scranton accumulated 30 shots and eight corners. Junior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) led the Warriors with four shot attempts.
In net for the Warriors, junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) notched 11 saves. Scranton's goalie Nicole Olson stopped five shot attempts.
The Warriors hit the road for Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 12, for Landmark Conference play at Moravian University at 1 p.m.
