Warriors claim 7-0 victory over Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming College women's tennis team swept all doubles and singles matches, earning a 7-0 victory over Penn College on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8, at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts.  

In No. 1 singles, senior Rei Saar (Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville Area) claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Penn College's Ellen Buckley, and junior Emma Kelchner (Nescopeck, Pa. / Central Columbia) secured a 6-3, 6-1 win over Emlyn Kinley in No. 2 play.

In No. 3 singles, freshman Sadie Stahl (Duboistown, Pa. / South Williamsport) fought through a tight 6-4, 6-3 match against Faith Murray. 

In No. 4 singles, senior Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kayla Weinzierl for the first singles point. Junior Greta Kimble (South Williamsport, Pa. / South Williamsport) followed suit with a No. 5 singles win, 6-0, 6-0, against Callistra Mahoney.

Freshman Reyna Kirick (Mifflinburg, Pa. / Mifflinburg Area) rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Penn College's Gwynn Johnson.

The Warriors also secured a point after sweeping doubles play with three victories. 

In No. 1 doubles, Saar and Kelchner earned a 6-2 win against Penn College's Buckley and Murray. Lycoming's Lanphear and Stahl also won in No. 2 doubles, notching a 6-2 win over Kinley and Weinzierl.  

Rounding out play at No. 3 doubles, Kimble and junior Cassandra Conner (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) secured a 6-2 win over Penn College's Mahoney and Johnson.  

The victory brings Lycoming's overall record to 7-2, while Penn College dropped to 0-5.  

The Warriors will resume Landmark Conference play against Goucher College on Saturday, March 22, in Towson, Md. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
