Umhoefer launches game-winning goal against Susquehanna

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - With three minutes left on the clock, junior Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes) found the back of the net for the game-winning goal for the Lycoming College women's soccer team as it won, 3-2, in comeback fashion against Susquehanna University in a key Landmark Conference matchup at UPMC Field on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5.

Gaining possession of the ball off a corner kick, sophomore Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) headed the ball across the box to Umhoefer, who snuck the ball into the corner of the net and secured the Warriors' win.

Long rocketed in the Warriors' second goal in the 65th minute with an assist from junior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick), tying the game at two after Susquehanna scored a pair of goals.

To kick off the game in the 16th minute, sophomore Ella Magee (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) scored on a penalty kick, her third successful penalty kick of the season.

In net for the Warriors, junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) made seven saves against Susquehanna. For the River Hawks, Katie Henchy saved three.

The Warriors and River Hawks both notched twelve shots. Nine of the Warriors shots were on goal compared to six by the River Hawks.

In the 30th minute, Susquehanna's Kalie Quaglia tied the game with a goal off a corner kick, assisted by Olivia Amand. The River Hawks took a brief lead in the second half when Chloe Michaels shuffled the ball into the net off a corner kick.

The Warriors travel to Scranton, Pa., on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 5 p.m., for Landmark Conference play against the University of Scranton, which is ranked fourth in Region V.
